Privacy Policy — Horizon Tracker

Overview

Horizon Tracker (“the App”) is a sobriety counter available on iOS and Android, built with your privacy as a priority. Your journey is personal, and your data should stay that way.

Data Collection

The App collects only the minimum data necessary to provide its features:

• Account Information: When you sign in (via Apple, Google, or email/password), we receive your email address and a unique user ID. This is used solely to sync your tracking data across your devices.
• Sobriety Data: Your quit date, drinks per day, and cost per drink — stored to calculate your progress.
• Preferences: Your chosen theme, app icon, and notification settings.
• Newsletter (optional): If you choose to subscribe to the Build Horizons newsletter, your email address is shared with Substack to deliver updates. This is entirely optional and initiated only by you.

The App does not:

• Track your location
• Access your contacts, photos, or other device data
• Use analytics or third-party tracking services
• Display advertisements
• Sell or share your data with third parties for marketing

Data Storage

Your data is stored in two places:

• On your device: Using Apple's UserDefaults for quick access and widget support.
• In the cloud: Using Google Firebase (Firestore) to sync your data across devices and preserve it if you switch phones. Your data is associated with your account and protected by Firebase's security rules — only you can access your data.

You can delete your cloud data at any time by using “Reset All Data” in Settings or by deleting your account.

Third-Party Services

The App uses the following services:

• Firebase Authentication (Google LLC) — For secure sign-in via Apple, Google, or email/password. Firebase Privacy Policy
• Cloud Firestore (Google LLC) — For syncing your sobriety data across devices.
• Apple StoreKit — For processing premium subscription purchases. Payments are handled entirely by Apple; we never see your payment information.
• Sign in with Apple — For authentication. Apple may share your email or a private relay address, per your choice.
• Google Sign-In (Google LLC) — For authentication. Google Privacy Policy
• Substack (optional) — If you subscribe to the newsletter, your email is shared with Substack for delivery. Substack Privacy Policy

We do not use any advertising networks, analytics platforms, or data brokers.

Subscriptions

Horizon Premium is an optional auto-renewable subscription. Payment is processed by Apple through the App Store (iOS) or Google through Google Play (Android). We do not collect or store any payment information. Subscription management (cancellation, renewal) is handled through your Apple ID or Google Play settings.

Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Data Retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete all your data at any time through the App's Settings. If you delete the App without resetting your data, your cloud data will persist so it's available if you reinstall.

Your Rights

You can:

• View all your stored data within the App
• Delete all your data using “Reset All Data” in Settings
• Export your data by contacting us
• Delete your account entirely through Settings

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, we will post the new policy here with an updated “Last Updated” date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
